Estimates that changed and extra charges in Los Angeles mover reviews

15 of 171 dated rows we hold for Los Angeles mention this, 9% of the set, as of 17 Sep 2026. Up to ten rows per mover. A mention is a phrase match, not a verdict; some rows say the opposite.

Rows that mention the estimate going up, extra or hidden charges, or paying more than quoted. Whether that was lawful depends on one line on the estimate: binding or non-binding.

What the rule says

  • Binding, 49 CFR 375.403: the price for the listed services, whatever the truck weighs. Only added services or impracticable operations can add charges.
  • Non-binding, 375.405: the final charges follow actual weight and the tariff, but you owe only 110% at delivery.
  • Impracticable operations at delivery are capped at 15% of the other charges due; the rest is billed later.

Interstate rules are FMCSA rules. A move inside one state follows that state, if it has a desk. This is not legal advice.

What you do this week

  1. 1Read the first line of the estimate and run the binding quiz if it is vague.
  2. 2Ask to observe the weighing and ask for a reweigh if the weight looks wrong.
  3. 3Pay what the rule requires, take delivery, and dispute the rest in writing. Do not leave goods on the truck over a disagreement.
