Best time to move

Pick a date to see how busy it is, and which months our reviewers moved and what they paid. A quieter date is easier to book and less likely to slip.

You get how busy that day is, and cheaper days nearby.

May to August Saturdays are when US trucks disappear; UK month-end Fridays behave the same way.

Calendar rules from the industry's peak season and month-end pattern. Monthly counts and prices: Haulest review file, as of 29 Oct 2026, all home sizes and distances mixed.

How a day is rated

The tool reads three things from the date you pick: the month, the weekday, and whether it falls on the 26th or later, which it counts as month end. It then applies one rule set per country. It does not attach a price to the day: we have no fair way to put a dollar figure on a Saturday, so the tool names the pressure and leaves the price to the quotes.

  • United States: May to August are the peak months. A month-end Saturday in those months is a peak Saturday. Any one of the three (a peak month, a Saturday, or month end) makes a busy day. Anything else is an open day.
  • Canada: the same summer months. A summer Saturday or a summer month end is a busy day; the rest of the year is open, though winter ice is its own problem and condo elevators still want a weekday.
  • United Kingdom: 1 to 20 September is the student rush. July, August, and a month-end Friday are busy days; a month-end Friday behaves like a US Saturday. The rest is open.

When reviewers moved, and what they paid

The table counts priced US reviews posted since 1 Jan 2023 by the month they were posted. A review is often written after the move, so the month posted can trail the move itself. A median is printed only when the month holds at least 30 priced reviews. In this file the busiest posting months are Oct, Sep, Aug.

Using the answer

A busy day is not a reason to cancel. It is a reason to book earlier and get the arrival window in writing. If you can move the date, slide off a Saturday: Tuesday through Thursday is quieter, and the weekday guide explains why. The booking lead-time guide covers how far ahead to call, and moving over the holidays covers the cheaper season with the dearer days. For the money side, the cost calculator shows what reviewers paid by home size, and the Moving Index 2026 has the full monthly series with its CSV. Haulest is not a moving company and does not hold dates: still book with a survey.
