Why the list beats a bedroom count

A written estimate is only as good as the inventory under it. Two 2-bedroom homes can differ by a thousand pounds: one has a sleeper sofa, a treadmill, and forty boxes of books, the other has a futon. The count above is what the estimator wants before a number leaves their mouth.

What to say early

Pianos, safes, pool tables, hot tubs, and anything over 300 lb change the crew, the equipment, and sometimes the truck. Say them on the first call. Stairs, a long carry from the truck, and tight parking do the same. The quote form asks for those in one tap.

How the numbers work

Volumes and weights come from the industry planning table van lines use, at about 7 pounds per cubic foot. Boxes are counted by size: a book box is 1.5 cubic feet, a dish pack 6. A truck suggestion is a guide for the conversation, not a rental recommendation. Fuel, plants, and propane never ride on a household-goods truck; see the prohibited items tool.
