Movers late? What the delivery window actually promises
An interstate mover must move your goods with reasonable dispatch and deliver inside the window written on the bill of lading. If they will be late, they must tell you. That is 49 CFR 375.601 and 375.605. A window that was never written down is a window you cannot enforce.

Why you are here
The lease starts Monday, the truck says Thursday, and nobody put a date on paper.
Why Haulest
The sections, the phrase to write on the bill of lading, and how often late shows up in the rows we hold.

| No-show, never showed, cancelled on us | 42 | 2% |
| On time, early, punctual | 309 | 16% |
What reasonable dispatch means
The mover agrees to a pickup date or window and a delivery date or window, and both go on the bill of lading. Reasonable dispatch means they move it within that agreement without unnecessary delay. It does not mean overnight.
Long-distance moves commonly quote a delivery spread of several days to a couple of weeks depending on distance and whether your goods share a truck. The spread is the promise. Ask for it in writing and check it against the pickup date.
When they will be late
The mover must notify you of a delay and give a new date. Ask what they will pay toward your hotel or essentials if they miss the window; some tariffs include a delay claim, most do not volunteer it.
Keep the first-night box in your car. A delivery window is a plan, and the plan slides in summer.
Canada and the UK
No federal delivery rule in Canada; the contract is the promise. In the UK, completion day is the date, and if keys slip the van is on waiting time. Ask what waiting time costs before you celebrate a cheap figure.

Ask out loud
- They picked up on time but delivery is three weeks out. Is that legal?
- If the bill of lading says a three-week spread, yes. If it says nothing, that is the problem. Get the window on paper before pickup.
- Can I claim hotel costs for a late delivery?
- Ask the mover for their delay or inconvenience claim terms in writing. Some pay a daily amount. Keep receipts either way.
