Container ship being loaded at the Port of Baltimore

CBP Form 3299: the household goods form people forget

US Customs and Border Protection lists Form 3299 as the declaration for unaccompanied household goods entering the US. If your shipment holds used furniture, clothes, or kitchen goods, check this form before the truck is booked.

CBP published a September 2026 note on Form 3299. The form covers personal and household effects shipped separately from the traveller. It applies to people moving to the US, not to commercial freight.

The note does not list fees, deadlines, or a processing time. It does not say which ports require a paper copy. Confirm those details with your moving company and the port of entry before pickup.

Form 3299 is separate from the customs paperwork your carrier files. A missing or late form can hold goods at the port. Build the form into your move plan early, not on arrival week.

This week

  1. Download Form 3299 and list every used item in the shipment.
  2. Ask your mover and the port of entry whether they need the form before pickup.
