Ontario still says there is no mover licence
As of September 2026, Ontario’s hiring-a-mover page still says the province does not license movers as movers. A CVOR is a trucking credential, not a gold star.
Canada has no federal mover licence. That sentence belongs on every Toronto and Ottawa page we publish.
Check insurance, WSIB where it applies, and a name that matches the van. The Canadian Association of Movers is a trade group, not a licence.

What you do this week
- Ask for the mover's insurance certificate and the name that will be on the truck.
- If the mover runs trucks in Ontario, ask for the CVOR number and check it on the province's site.
- Get the price, the dates, and the deposit terms in writing. Ontario's page tells you the same thing.
- Read the Consumer Protection Act notes on cancellation before you pay a deposit.
