If you are expecting to pay only the estimate given to you by Atlantic Xpress and you want a professional mover, not a broker, I would highly suggest not using this company. I was given a binding estimate by Atlantic Xpress and was assured by them that the price would not change unless I loaded additional items not listed on the original inventory list. My wife and I went over the list multiple times with Patrick and Sam to ensure we had the most correct inventory and price. We were also supposed to get an onsite estimate by Sam and he never showed, called or emailed, despite claiming he did.
On the day of the move the moving company which is subcontracted by Altantic Xpress tell me I've loaded more cubic feet, not items and that I need to pay nearly $2,000 more than my so called binding estimate from Atlantic Xpress. I dispute this and refuse to sign the paperwork only to be coaxed by Sam, the owner of the moving company and the supervisor into signing the paperwork, otherwise I would have had to unload the truck or take items off of the truck.
I continue to dispute the price with Sam, and he tells me the original contract and estimate I have with Atlantic Xpress is no longer binding since I signed the other Bill of Lading (which legally isn't true). Also he continues to tell me that the binding estimate locks in a rate for the volume and fuel surcharge and that I loaded more cubic footage than estimated. This despite the fact that this is never disclosed up front, we were also told the price would only change if we loaded items not listed on the original inventory list and the Atlantic Xpress contract states clearly: "Your estimate price is guaranteed not to change unless you order additional services, add additional items, or additional cubic footage/weight to be moved which are not listed on the estimate." Both myself and Sam verified that I did not load additional items or cubic footage that wasn't listed on the original estimate. Finally I'm told I need to try and negotiate directly with the moving company because they don't agree to reduce the price, even though I contacted Atlantic Xpress and agreed on the price with them.
The movers themselves were Citi Movers. The movers at origin were sloppy, left items in nearly every room that I had to pack myself, they broke a lamp in my dining room and didn't notify me, and used my own personal boxes I had purchased to pack my belongings. They also sent the movers to the wrong address for delivery. The only positive was Richard and his helper on delivery day. They were fast, professional, and did an excellent job despite being sent to the wrong address and showing up over 4 hours late.
So again, if you are expecting an actual professional moving company and a truly binding estimate that won't suddenly change on the moving day, then I would highly recommend you not to choose Atlantic Xpress.
