Scheduled move date with owner who gave me a verbal estimate based on $260/hr for 4 movers plus a truck, $150 for travel. We also rented a dumpster for $200 . The dumpster didnt show up until night before move, giving us less time to have everything done before the movers showed up the next day. About 30 minutes before the movers show up, the dumpster driver shows up wanting to pick up dumpster! We hadn't had it even 12 hours! We told him not ready for pick up and he could leave. But he sat out in the street parked so his GPS would show he was actually working? When the 4 movers show up they loaded our boxes in the truck first. We had roughy 75 boxes clearly labeled by room and its contents.while loading boxes the foreman tells my husband "hey this will go a lot quicker with more movers. We have 2 more guys right outside"(dumpster guys - what a coincidence!)
He tells us "the hourly rate may go up slightly but it will take less time so in the end we're saving you money". Ok we say. These 2 additional movers were on site moving for less than 1 hour and they disappeared. so now we get to new house and the furniture is unloaded. After a few loads of boxes come in, the foreman approaches me a second time to suggest rather than bring all of our clearly labeled boxes to their designated rooms, it'll be much cheaper to stack them outside. I was exhausted, stressed out and distracted so I sort of agreed to this - with the promise it would lower our final bill. When the 5 hour move was completed, the foreman doesn't have a receipt or invoice to give me. He verbally tells me the final cost is $2,500 but he'll give me a discount of $200 if one of his coworkers could ask my daughter out on a date! I was appalled at his comment and almost fell over at the colossal inflated total! I told him the owner quoted me $900 - $1,000 for everything. We budgeted for $1,500 making sure they all received a tip. My husbandpaid $1,900 (way above our budget) and agreed to pay $400 another day. And nobody was getting a date with our daughter!!! We asked for a receipt, anything in writing but the foreman claimed he didn't have any with him??? There was never a contract, no estimate in writing, no mention of their rates except we were told $260/hr and it must be a minimum of 2 hours plus the $150 transport fee and the dumpster charge of $230. We knew we were overcharged, that the numbers were off and we questioned the foreman who said he'd send us a copy of all of the charges via email or text?? after 5 theyd been paid, truck empty, thinking they are leaving but they haven't left. They putzed around their trucks in my driveway for an additional 45 minutes At one point I went outside and asked if they were done and why the lingering. The next morning my husband and I contacted Unique Movers to request the owner to call us to discuss the bill, etc. I mean this went from an estimated $1,000 to $2,300! After taking a look in my garage I almost cried! Stacks and stacks of boxes that should have been brought into the house to their designated rooms. We hired a moving company to avoid having to do this! We relayed all of this to thr owner Connor Steen, but he was so unprofessional, rude and has no business in his role as owner of a company that provides a consumers a service. He doesn't possess any accountability, integrity, or customer service skills whatsoever. We went back and forth for 2 days trying to get this settled with him. He offered no refund of overages. He tried to make it sound as if we were somehow at fault?Each time we would request a breakdown of the charges or itemized receipt, his numbers kept changing! After quite a lengthy text war he finally admitted that his movers overcharged us and there were also inhouse accounting errors. Finally! Well, not so much... we thanked him for acknowledging their mistakes or whatever you wanna call it (I'm trying to be fair here) but when we said ok you overcharged us and owe us $330 when can we expect to be refunded?He said Unique Movers would not be giving us any of our money back! WTF??? Admit your mistake but don't correct the issue? We have been advised by legal counsel to begin the process of Conciliation Court. I would not recommend this company to take out my garbage let alone use them for moving. They have zero integrity, no customer service skills and are dishonest and rude.
