Local move-Jills Movers, LLC Lansing, MI
I hired Jill's movers to move me on April 26,2022 from Marshall, MI to Albion, MI 9.8 miles. On the initial call I spoke with Malia. I gave her all of the details of the move: I lived in Marshall, MI above the Grand River Brewery there were 24 stairs up the front which was the closest to my apartment. It was a 1 bedroom, 1 bath . I told her an approximate number of boxes 40 plus wasn't exactly sure at the time. I told her about every piece of furniture that was in the apartment. Malia quoted me a flat rate of $850.00. I also clarified that that was $850.00 with no additional charges. She said that was correct. I asked if she would send some paperwork since she wanted payment up front but she said they would bring it the day of the move. I paid $850.00 that day. On 4/21/22 I called just to make sure we were good for the move and what time I could expect them. This time I spoke with Justin. He said everything was good to go and they would be there at 09:00 on 4/26/2022 as planned. The truck showed up after 10 on 4/26/2022. There were two movers, one male one female. (I have forgotten their names) The male mover finally came up and said he wanted to look around, then he left. After sometime he came back up with a clipboard and said the move would cost me $1,600. I was a little more than angry to be honest. I told him I wasn't paying that. I tried to call into the office several times but no one would answer. He told me everyone was in a meeting. I left messages as well and never received a call back. He said there was another guy and he thought he would give me $200.00 off the additional $750.00 they were charging me over the $850.00 I paid initially. I asked for that person's number so I could speak with him but he said only he could text him. I was between a rock and a hard place and didn't really have time to schedule another mover this late in the game. They also wouldn't move forward with the move until I signed their paper and paid the additional $550.00. So my flat rate $850.00 move turned into a $1,400 move. I'm on disability. This is a lot of money for me. I was told Malia was new and made a mistake. I was told there are NO movers in Marshall, MI. So many excuses. I feel like it was a scam and that I was taken advantage of. So, I moved into my new place and there was a specific box I had kept my eye on in the apartment. It had something valuable in it (although that wasn't marked on the box). I was going to ask them to put it in my car. But with everything going on before I had a chance to ask it was gone. I assumed it went into the truck. Of course, when you move there are boxes and things everywhere so it took a minute for me to notice it was missing. It was actually 3 weeks after the move I knew for sure. I had some things stored under my bed and the movers put them back when they put my bed back together. I thought perhaps it had been put under there by mistake so that was my last place to look. I can't move my mattress and box springs by myself to check so some friends came over and moved them and the box was not there. It wasn't anywhere in my new house. When I realized it was missing I called Jill's movers no one answered so I left a message. Justin called me back on 5/16/22. I gave him a description of the box (or tried to) when he said who is this?? I gave Justin my name and he said I'll call you right back. He never called me back. I called them back on 5/17/2022 no answer again left a message. Never received a response. I called them again on Friday 5/27/2022 Justin answered the phone. He acted like he didn't know why I was calling. I said you remember I called you about the missing box awhile back and I've left several messages. You asked my name and when I told you, you said you would call me right back but never did. I began to tell him about the box again when he said. We have your box in our warehouse. Great! I said when can I get it? He said well I will have to look at the schedule and see when we can get it there. Said he would do that and call me back that day. I never heard back. He did mention it was a holiday week-end so I might not get it till after the holiday. The following Wednesday rolls around June 1,2022 I haven't heard a word from Jill's movers. So I call them and again Justin answers. He said again the box was in the warehouse and he would have to look at the schedule and they were short handed etc. So, I said where is the warehouse located? He said Okemos but quickly added you can't go there because of COVID. What a nightmare! They admittedly have my personal property and won't return it. Why didn't they notify me when they found a box left on the truck? I don't understand. So unprofessional!
