This was one painful experience.
I just discovered that PackRite Movers had their license revoked per 1/1-2021. Nevertheless, they accepted my move with delivery date mid January 2021!
PackRite movers were hired by Independence Van Lines to complete my move.
PackRite Movers came with 1 day delay versus what they initially called and promised.When they came to my house, they said "there was no way to complete the move for $4,000 dollars" and made me redo the entire contract that now was for $10,690.34dollars. During the entire transaction process, the movers spoke in a foreign language that I could not understand. I politely asked them to speak in English when they talked about my move, which they refused under the pretense that they did not master English and one of the movers did not speak English at all. Because I was in a pickle and needed to move ASAP and could not afford to loss the $1,700 downpayment. I accepted the new contract. I was unhappy with the new situation, which I expressed. The movers (2 persons) left the house and were about leaving with the truck. I was in shock and called the Independence Van Lines company that called the 2 movers. It was a lot of back and forth talk between Independence Van Lines and the 2 movers. The movers told the customer service that she was not their boss, so they do not listen to her advice. Nothing could be accomplished other than a brand new contract , which was 3 times more than initially promised as a "binding" offer. To my surprise, at the end of the move, the movers left the majority of the furniture behind them. They only moved 1 dresser, 2 mattresses, 2 bed boxes, 4 night stands, 1 table and 6 chairs along with almost all the boxes that my belongings were packed in. They told me if I wanted all the furniture to be moved, I needed to pay much more than the $10,000 dollars !!! Per the written contract, the delivery was scheduled to take place between in the beginning of-2021. I received a call on Christmas evening and asked if I was ready for the delivery to take place next day!! No one even mentioned for me this option. I was not home, so I was not able to receive any delivery at that point. On January 2nd I called the company. No one could help me to have anything to be delivered during the contractual timeframe. No one I called knew when the 3rd party will be delivering the goods. I called them daily over 1 week. My calls were never returned. Another aspect of significance was that I talked to the movers that my payments will be with credit card. Upon delivery, the movers would not start unloading my personal belongings unless I paid cash or money order $3,250 ! I was charged $250 more dollars for 15 minute wait as I needed to go and get the money order ! The Independence Van Lines could not convince the 3rd party to accept a credit card.The manager from PackRiteMovers yelled at me over the phone that it was I not paying attention to what he said to me! He mentioned the amount of money but not that he will not receive the money by credit card ! I found odd to be yelled at while I was the paying party for his services !!! I was threatened that I will be charged much more if i am not paying cash or with money order!
It was no help that I got. Despite contract, no assembly or disassembling of furniture was provided. I was told this will require extra charges.
The movers did not have a dolly.
I still have my furniture at the initial place of move! Now, I pay storage for it!
My distress is caused by the false premises the entire move was built on and the complete lack of customer service.
