Ask out loud

One question, one answer

Is there a Canadian mover licence?

No federal one. Ontario says that out loud. Check insurance, CVOR or safety fitness, and a name that matches the van.

What is a CVOR?

Ontario commercial-vehicle operator registration. Page updated 9 February 2026. Trucks over 4,500 kg are in. It is not a mover licence.

What is a safety fitness certificate?

Extra-provincial carriers need one under the Motor Vehicle Transport Act. Still not a mover licence.

Who regulates a move inside my province?

No province we checked licenses movers as movers. Each province page names the office that takes a complaint and the credential a carrier holds: Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.

Can they hold my goods in Ontario?

The hiring page calls holding goods for extra payment an unfair practice. Photograph. Call the provincial consumer desk.

GST/HST?

Belongs on the invoice.

Do you rank Canadian movers?

No.
