Canada moving FAQ, 2026

Canada does not issue a federal household-goods mover licence. Ontario’s hiring page, updated 19 June 2026, names a 10% estimate cap and a ban on holding goods. A CVOR is not a mover badge.

One question, one answer

Is there a Canadian mover licence?
No federal one. Ontario says that out loud. Check insurance, CVOR or safety fitness, and a name that matches the van.
What is a CVOR?
Ontario commercial-vehicle operator registration. Page updated 9 February 2026. Trucks over 4,500 kg are in. It is not a mover licence.
What is a safety fitness certificate?
Extra-provincial carriers need one under the Motor Vehicle Transport Act. Still not a mover licence.
Can they hold my goods in Ontario?
