What to know before the deposit
Consumer Protection BC licenses a list of trades, and movers are not on it. A move inside the province is an ordinary consumer contract, so the paper is the protection: a written estimate after a look, the price basis (hourly or flat), and a legal name that matches the truck.
A move that crosses into another province or the US follows the contract and the rules where the company is based. Ask, in writing, which company holds your goods on the road and what it pays per pound or per item if something breaks.

Questions people ask
- Do movers need a licence in British Columbia?
- Canada has no federal mover licence, and we found no provincial one in British Columbia. A commercial carrier based here holds a National Safety Code certificate from Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE), which is a trucking safety credential, not a mover licence. Ask for it, and check that the legal name matches the truck.
- Where do I complain about a mover in British Columbia?
- Consumer Protection BC. Keep the contract, the invoice, and every written message. A card payment can also be disputed with your issuer.
- What does a move within British Columbia cost?
- Reviewers reported a median of C$1,416 for moves that stayed inside British Columbia, across 194 priced reviews. A reported price is what one household paid, not a quote.
