Loading in Vancouver

If the quote is cash-only and the crew is a different company than the website, stop

Rain is a work problem. Vancouver rain soaks cardboard and turns a wood stair into a slip hazard, so the crew needs a dry path and a plan for wet boxes before the first load. Many buildings in downtown and Yaletown book the elevator in two-hour blocks. If the slot is short, the crew is racing the clock from the lobby. Ask for the booking window in writing before load day.

A long truck may not fit. Hills in North Vancouver and some East Van streets will not take a long truck, so the last stretch is a shuttle. A North Shore or Kitsilano street that cannot take a 26-foot box gets the same treatment. Confirm the truck size against the street before you sign, and get a written estimate after a survey. See Vancouver moving cost for city price notes.

No provincial mover licence here. British Columbia has no federal mover licence and no provincial mover licence that works like FMCSA. You can still ask for a safety-fitness or NSC number, insurance, an address, and a name that matches the van. GST or HST belongs on the invoice. If the quote is cash-only and the crew is a different company than the website, stop and read how a deposit should look.

The road

The lane is 2,700 miles, about 48 hours at the wheel

This is not a same-day drive. The lane is 2,700 miles, about 48 hours at the wheel, so the truck is out for several days. The order for service should say if the truck is dedicated or shared, and it should set a delivery spread. A move between provinces means a second set of building rules. How to read a moving estimate shows where that spread sits on the paper.

Check the company, not a federal sticker. Canada has no federal mover licence. Check the mover's insurance, its address, and its record, and get a written estimate after a survey. GST or HST applies to the service. The name on the quote should match the name on the van before the truck leaves Vancouver. How to read a moving estimate is the boring page that saves the argument later.

Delivering in Toronto

A large cash deposit with no in-home or video survey is a warning, not a bargain

The elevator slot is the delivery. Toronto condos run on elevator reservations and certificates of insurance. Miss the slot and the crew waits on the clock. Older walk-ups downtown and in the west end have tight turns and no loading dock. Condo corporations that want a weekday elevator slot will not care that your lease ends on a Sunday. Book the weekday and send the certificate before the truck is close.

Winter and floors. Winter adds salt, slush, and floor protection the building will demand. Have that protection agreed before the crew is in the lobby. HST applies to the service. Ontario does not license movers as movers. What you can check is a CVOR for the trucking company, WSIB coverage, and whether the name on the quote matches the name on the van.

Damage shows up more than delay. Of 53 reviews on this province pair, 45% mention damage and 23% a delay. Photos at pickup and at the Toronto door are the record if something arrives hurt. A large cash deposit with no in-home or video survey is a warning, not a bargain. The Canadian Association of Movers is a trade group, not a licence.
