   I don’t like to leave bad reviews generally, but my recent experience left me with a very bad taste in my mouth. My move was delayed by a week initially because one of their employees was not entering information into their system. Two day-of-move cancellations followed, leaving me stranded for another 10 days. In the move, they damaged the plaster on my walls and then charged $500 more than the initial estimate. I can see some variation from the estimate, but this is excessive and suggests a company that is not run particularly well. Can’t recommend.

   He stole $4000 from me. i have repeatedly asked for it back. he was hired and never showed. I took him to court, he still has yet to pay me back. I will get my money back, in either cash or money it will cost him on his property and face when I'm done with him.

   I had previously used this company before and they were fantastic. This time I was thoroughly disappointed. I set up the move, then got a call from Seth, telling me I had to give a cash deposit upfront $350 and he would come by and pick it up which was at least 1-2 months away. NEVER heard from Seth, so I called his cell and asked if we were still on. He said yes, and i asked were we still good for 4 guys. He said yes. The morning of the move I get a call that the had truck trouble and wouldnt be arriving until 10 am. Imagine my surprise when it was 11:15, 2 guys and a trailer!!! He said he couldnt get another truck, and never did get an answer about additional guys. But I had to let it go as I was turning in keys to that place next day. I had everything boxed up, so I thought it would go quickly. I told Seth we would be making 2 trips and he said no it will all fit. OF COURSE I WAS RIGHT. So we leave to make the 1st trip and he left ahead of me. I was moving from Harrisonburg to Stuarts Draft. I'm on the highway almost to Verona. Seth calls me and tells me there is a problem and I need to turn around. Wouldnt tell me what the problem was on the phone. So I head back to 7 eleven/exon and he tells me he has no gas and no wallet, so I will have to pay for gas if I expect to get my stuff moved. I did it against mine and my roommate's decision. He said he could knock off what I paid for his gas from my overall bill. I dont know why he told me that but he was going to have to do that anyway. They got here about 130 to offload 1st load and then he came to me and said one of his guys had a parttime job he would have to get to, so they would come back tomorrow. I TOLD HIM NO WAY. We go back for the final load( I hope). We finally get it loaded, the 2 workers did a good job!, and its dark by then. We pull up to house to offload trailer and he says he will leave trailer with contents and they will come back tomorrow to offload, but he needs his money for the whole job now and in cash. I told him Iwould be writing a check at first and he said that was fine. I told him he was getting paid until tge job was complete and that would be today!! He was angry and said he had somewhere else to be and he needed his money. The 2 workers agreed to stay to unload in the dark.He told the one guy make sure you get my money before you leave. A brand new trailer with temp tags and light didnt work inside so we used flashlight on my cellphone to finish moving. I helped but it was still 10 pm when we finished. Then Seth called his guys and told them to let me know he would pick up his trailer the next day. It sat outside my house for 3 days. Also when I went back to old place to finish cleaning up before i turned keys in, vacuum I had left there was gone. And slider door in basement was cracked open. I checked that door when we had finished moving items from basement. Also my roommate called him 2x about Tv's that he put in townhouse because he didnt have room for them. Its now been about 2 1/2 months and I find I'm missing other stuff. Also based on reviews I have now read, i definitely overpaid to move out of a 2 bedroom townhouse. I would not recommend dealing with this company. The phone number I had for the company NEVER worked. SETH said it must be my phone!

   WORST moving experience - Unsafe and Unprofessional

   I hired this company expecting care and professionalism, but what I got was the opposite. The owner, Seth Patterson, promised items would be wrapped and protected. Instead, he charged extra for wrap that was never used. Our belongings were damaged, left behind, and thrown into a storage unit that looked like a dangerous game of Jenga—heavy outdoor furniture stacked on fragile boxes, many labeled “fragile” and “heavy,” upside down and sideways. Dirty outdoor equipment was placed on top of a clean white couch that was supposed to be wrapped but wasn’t. To make matters worse, I had to spend my own time rearranging and clearing the front of the storage unit, even moving items into another unit because it was so dangerously packed it couldn’t stay that way for months. I hired someone to care for my items, but they were treated like trash—and then I had to waste time I paid for just sorting through what I could reach. When I complained, Seth completely ghosted me, ignored all issues, and broke the contract. We are now pursuing legal action. Bottom line: Do not trust this company. They are careless, dishonest, and unresponsive.

   Do not use this service. I was promised 3 full time movers. I got 2 and the owner showed up for part of it, but had to leave. Also late arrival. After lunch, I was told a 16 yr old boy was going to show up. They got one of their sons who was 11. It rained so they stopped for safety reasons, which is understood but had to call them to return after the rain stopped. By that time, it was about 6pm and the 2 guys that had been working all day were dragging. I was told they could return 2 days later if they called it a day. The morning they were scheduled, I get a call informing me that they had a 4 hour min charge regardless of how long it took. An hour and a half later, they had loaded, transported and unloaded. I got stuck for the 4 hours and at $200 an hour. This is poor customer service placed far behind the profit.

   DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY The first day – packing our house – they only worked a half day because they scheduled another job in the afternoon. The second day – moving us out of our house and into storage – they could not find enough movers so they cancelled the night before (thankfully our move was flexible). Came back and moved our stuff a few days later. The final day – moving our stuff from storage to the new house – was the real nightmare. They only sent two guys (knowing that last time it took four guys and they still had to call in an extra in the afternoon). The owner did not pick up his phone or return our calls all day. Thankfully I am in good enough health that I was able to help carry our furniture and boxes all day (8 am to 10pm). The two workers themselves were incredible and worked very hard to somehow get our move done in one day. At 10 pm the owner of the company, who had failed to return our calls all day, was suddenly on the phone with his employee, instructing him to collect payment before leaving our home. I asked if I could speak to the owner directly. He told his employee he was unavailable to speak to me. He then threatened to take us to court if we did not pay immediately. I reminded him (through his employee) that our contract says we have seven days to pay. He relented, but not without saying that if he didn’t have a check in his hands in seven days he would put a lien on our house. Between multiple scheduling failures, sending half a crew, complete lack of communication, and the totally unnecessary threat of litigation, this was the most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with. We went to the BBB to file a complaint, and found that they are lost their BBB accreditation by failing to renew their Virginia DMV license. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

   Patterson Moving advertises that they are different than other moving companies through their integrity, low prices and reliability. Unfortunately, our experience using their services did NOT live up to these advertised standards. EXPENSIVE. We were charged MORE than DOUBLE our quoted estimate. Our quoted estimate for the move was $1,380; the amount they billed us was $3,000. This amount was due upon completion of the move and they did not provide us with a itemized bill. UNRELIABLE. The move took nearly twice as long for two reasons that are the fault of Patterson Movers. At the beginning of the move we requested that they load the larger, heavier items first so that we could move the smaller things ourselves if necessary. First, they employed a mover who was not physically capable of moving our belongings. He was slow and could not carry heavy objects. He avoided the heavy pieces and frequently stopped to rest. In fact, they pulled him from our job because he was not able to do the work. Second, the movers were inefficient, and the first group of movers lacked experience in packing the truck. The movers failed to load the truck using its height and instead placed much of our belongings side-by-side on the truck bed. This inefficiency left a lot of our large heavy items not loaded in the truck, which meant the movers had to make a second trip to move the remaining pieces. To make it worse, when they were offloading our belongings, they were dragging, not lifting, our furniture. They broke our washing machine and some of our furniture. They also chipped the paint from the walls and trim of our newly painted home and dented a brand-new steel entry door. The manager/owner told us to use a magic eraser to fix the walls but this does not repair chipped paint, drywall, and trim. LACKING INTEGRITY. A person representing himself as the manager (who, based on their Yelp profile, appears to also be the owner of Patterson Moving) did show up on our job. He said the “owner” has a close relationship with the insurance company and promised to have his insurance company pay to fix our washer. He said he would file the insurance claim for us but over a month later this promise has been unfulfilled. The manager also promised to reduce our price to compensate us for the damage to our furniture, yet he will not even provide us an itemized breakdown of our expenses to demonstrate if the price reduction was given. Ultimately, the movers expected us to pay for their services before they left our house without evidence of an itemized bill for services. Before paying I asked for a bill for services and was told the manager would send something the next day after we paid. Their contract requires that you pay at the conclusion of their services and settle disputes later. As a result, we paid at the conclusion of their services, but they have been unwilling to settle disputes. We have called and emailed Patterson Moving many times with no response and still have never seen an itemized bill for services. It is unclear if they gave us a reduced price for damages or even how they calculated their fees (mileage, hours calculated, etc.). Beware of their claims and advertisements - we did not experience what was promised. Patterson Moving is an extremely unprofessional and unreliable moving company that is completely lacking in integrity.
