The trailer was hit on the way and both One Call and GMZ refused to pay for the ($10,000) damage done to our trailer. Stay away from both of these companies. They are both horrible companies to deal with.”

Who makes this move

The file we have for this lane is small, 17 reviews, so treat the price notes below as a thin sample.

Census counted 6,509 movers. ACS 2024 puts 6,509 people on the Idaho to California path, with a margin of plus or minus 1,562. Price levels sit apart. BEA regional price parity for 2024 sets Idaho at 95.5 and California at 110.7, with the US index at 100. A dollar covers more of a typical basket in Idaho than it does in California on that index. Both states tax wages. We do not publish rates here, because brackets and credits change and a mover quote is not a tax return.

What the job looks like

In our file the most common pairing is Meridian to San Diego, 920 miles, about 18 hours behind the wheel.

Meridian to San Diego is the common run. In our file the most common pairing is Meridian to San Diego, 920 miles, about 18 hours behind the wheel. That is driving time, not a promise of how many calendar days the crew will take. Delivery is a window written on the order for service, and the truck can arrive on any day inside it.

Weight and miles set the price. A long-distance move is priced by shipment weight and the miles the load travels, so a studio and a four-bedroom house on this lane will not share a quote. Across 17 priced reviews the median reported price is $4,400, and the middle half runs $3,780 to $5,000. Those figures mix home sizes and distances. One number from the file is a marker, not your inventory.

Before you book

The delivery window belongs on the order for service, not in a verbal aside.

Check the license before the deposit. Interstate household moves need a mover with an active USDOT number and FMCSA household-goods authority. You can check the estimate against the license before money moves. Ask whether the quote is binding or not-to-exceed. On a non-binding estimate the mover must deliver once you pay 110 percent of the estimate, which is the 110 percent rule.

Get the window and the deposit in writing. The delivery window belongs on the order for service, not in a verbal aside. If the dates slip, start from what the order actually says. Deposit terms should name the amount, when it is due, and what happens if you cancel. Read how a deposit usually works before you send it. A receipt that only lives in a group chat is a souvenir.
