Household mover or art shipper
The mover who loads the piece has to see the declaration.
Hire an art shipper when the piece is the move. Paintings, sculpture, and antiques that would sink a claim belong with handlers, not with the crew that also has the sofa. A sturdy framed print can ride with the household mover if it is declared and packed. The line is value per pound. A piano follows the same rule on weight and on finish.
A crate shop is how you split the job. The shop builds the box: foam, a fitted interior, and a label. September 2026 rate cards put museum-grade crates from $500 and custom crates at $200 to $2,000. The paper that protects you
You have 60 cents per pound per article and a polite email.
Released value is 60 cents per pound per article. Full value protection pays repair or replacement up to the declared value, and only if that number was written down. Items worth more than $100 per pound must be listed on a high-value inventory before loading, or the mover's liability is limited. Photos and the crate label finish the file. Note chips, repairs, and the frame before the piece goes in the box. Those notes belong with the bill of lading.
