ULEZ, LEZ, and a London removal van
The Ultra Low Emission Zone covers all of Greater London. A van up to 3.5 tonnes that does not meet the standard pays £12.50 a day inside it; a lorry over 3.5 tonnes falls under the separate Low Emission Zone with much higher daily charges. Most modern diesel removal vans are compliant. Ask the remover whether the vehicle they will send is, and who pays if it is not.

Why you are here
The quote said £600 and the invoice says £600 plus a ULEZ day and a Congestion Charge day nobody mentioned.
Why Haulest
We print the charges TfL publishes and the questions to ask. We do not sell a permit and we do not book the parking suspension for you.
| Scheme | Applies to | Daily charge if non-compliant |
|---|---|---|
| ULEZ | Cars, vans and minibuses up to 3.5t, motorcycles, across Greater London | £12.50 |
| LEZ | Lorries, vans and specialist vehicles over 3.5t, across Greater London | Higher, tiered by emissions standard; see TfL |
| Congestion Charge | Central London zone, weekday and weekend hours | Separate daily charge; see TfL |
Which vehicle is the question
A Euro 6 diesel or Euro 4 petrol van meets the ULEZ standard. Most removal firms replaced their fleets, but a subcontracted 7.5-tonne lorry on a long-distance job sits under the LEZ, not the ULEZ. Ask which vehicle will come and run the registration through the TfL checker.
Get it in writing whether ULEZ, LEZ, and Congestion Charge days are in the quote or billed on top. A cheap figure with the charges on top is the London version of the driveway surprise.
Parking is the other cost
The van needs somewhere to stand. On a red route or a residents' bay that means a parking bay suspension or a dispensation from the borough, booked days ahead and charged by the borough. Fees and lead times differ by council. Ask the remover who books it and whether the fee is in the quote.
Without a suspension, a van on a yellow line while loading can be ticketed. Ask who pays.
Completion day
Keys often land at lunchtime or later. A van already in London on the clock is paying for the day either way. Read waiting time before you celebrate a cheap figure.

Ask out loud
- Does the ULEZ charge apply to a removal van?
- If the van is up to 3.5 tonnes and does not meet the emissions standard, yes, £12.50 a day. Over 3.5 tonnes it is the LEZ instead. Compliant vehicles pay nothing.
- Can I get a ULEZ exemption for a house move?
- There is no house-move exemption. Exemptions are for vehicle types and specific schemes. The answer is a compliant van.
