Loading in Los Angeles
Do not hand over a large cash deposit to a crew that only has a van and a verbal number.
Access changes by neighborhood. A 2-bed in a valley apartment with a loading dock is a different job from a hillside house in Silver Lake or Mount Washington, where the truck stops two bends below and the crew carries. If the truck cannot climb or turn on a Silver Lake street, it gets swapped for a shuttle, and you pay for both clocks. Street parking in many neighborhoods is the accessorial.
What the crew meets at the door. HOAs in newer buildings want a COI and a weekday window. Friday of a holiday weekend is how you donate hours to traffic on I-10 and the 405. Los Angeles is a collection of loading problems connected by those two roads.
Ask for numbers, then the deposit. California household movers are licensed under the Household Movers Act (BHGS), and interstate work still needs FMCSA. Ask for the Cal-T or BHGS number and the USDOT. Do not hand over a large cash deposit to a crew that only has a van and a verbal number. A license lookup and the deposit guide are worth doing before you pay.
The road
The mover needs an active USDOT number and FMCSA authority.
Not a same-day drive. The road is 1,438 miles, about 25 hours at the wheel, so this is several days of driving, not a same-day delivery. Dedicated or shared, the truck is priced by weight and miles, and the delivery spread is the window written on the order for service.
Who is allowed to haul it. The mover needs an active USDOT number and FMCSA authority. This is an interstate household-goods job, priced by weight and miles. In 2024, 77,161 people moved from California to Texas, margin plus or minus 9,059. The delivery window is written on the order for service.
Living costs are a different number. BEA price parity for 2024 sets the US at 100, California at 110.7, and Texas at 97.1. That is the cost of living, not the freight bill. For the freight bill, read the estimate and the 110 percent rule before you compare quotes on weight and miles.
Delivering in Dallas
A leather sofa left against an unshaded wall at 2pm will tell on the crew before anyone argues about bedrooms.
The last turn is the job. Apartments in Uptown and downtown want a COI and a weekday elevator. Older East Dallas streets can deny a 26-foot box the last turn, so the last 40 feet is a long carry. HOAs in the northern suburbs have gate rules. Have the COI, the weekday elevator, and the gate rules sorted before the truck arrives.
Watch the heat at delivery. Dallas heat cooks a packed truck. A leather sofa left against an unshaded wall at 2pm will tell on the crew before anyone argues about bedrooms. Get it into shade or indoors as soon as it leaves the truck.
Ask again before the deposit. Texas licenses household-goods carriers at the state level, and interstate work still needs FMCSA. Ask for both numbers before a deposit. Reviewers on this city pair (Los Angeles to Dallas) report a median price of $3,234 across 7 priced reviews, with the middle half from $1,600 to $5,600. I-35 toward Austin is a regional hop, not a cross-country story.

When to go: in California, the busiest month for home sales over the last year was Oct 2025 and the quietest was Jan 2026. Movers fill up on the same calendar; a mid-month weekday outside May to August is the cheaper slot. Check your date.
